Sit back. Relax. And allow your body to unwind. Breathe in through the nose, and out through the mouth.

Are you calm? Do you feel a bit more relaxed? If not, Headspace, a guided meditation app, can help you practice daily meditation to help ease your mind and body. With a straightforward teacher, Headspace allows you to learn the basics of meditation: breathing and visualization. If the concept of meditation is foreign to you, Headspace can easily help you familiarize yourself with simple techniques that can be incorporated into your life.

After first opening the app, you encounter a short series of questions to help customize the app’s features to suit your needs. Once you answer questions about your main purpose for using Headspace, whether it be sleeping better, reducing stress, increasing focus, or managing anxiety, you can personalize the app to help your reach your relaxation goals. Headspace gives options for different exercise packs, including Foundation, Health, Relationships, Performance and Headspace Pro. Each pack lasts either 10 or 30 days, and you can also choose whether you want each session to be 10, 15 or 20 minutes. The app itself is free, however, to get the full Headspace experience, you have to pay for a subscription which can range from $5.74 to $14.95. But I found that the ten day trial was more than enough to establish meditation as a part of my schedule. The app encourages you to build a healthy habit of regular meditation by asking when you want to incorporate it into your existing routine and notifying you when the time comes for a guided meditation session.

The app has been receiving much praise recently by social media influencers, and it’s no secret why. Headspace is incredibly user-friendly and makes learning mindfulness simple and straightforward. Not only is the presentation of the app visually pleasing, but the interface is also sleek and beautiful. For people whose minds are constantly buzzing, who are overwhelmed by their to-do list and who are anxious about their future, like myself, Headspace is a helpful addition to a daily routine. The meditation sessions are quite short, making them easy to incorporate into a busy schedule.

Personally, I have a hard time dealing with stress, and I found that with the help of Headspace, I was able to find a healthy way to relax my mind and body. My mind is typically buzzing with ideas and things to check off from my to-do list, but when I use Headspace, it is easy for me to focus on my breathing and relaxation instead. One aspect of the app that I particularly love is the informational, high-quality video infographics that further explain the benefits of meditation and mindfulness. Not only does meditation help reduce stress, but it also increases self-awareness and happiness.

If you’re anything like me and get stressed by the simplest tasks, give Headspace a try. Even if you just want to develop a healthy habit, guided meditation can be the right fit for you. You truly have nothing to lose; you only have mindfulness, relaxation and self-awareness to gain.
