West Ranch Percussion Blows Students Away During Pep Rally
November 8, 2019
On Oct. 30, West Ranch High School’s drum line performed in front of the ASB office at brunch during their pep rally. Cheerleaders rooted them on as the percussion played entertaining tunes. Many students gathered as the percussion played a variety of measures that gave students a break from their busy day.
Cymbal player and freshman Ryan Peattie said, “I think it went really well. We all had fun performing for everyone and I enjoyed getting to show everyone what we can do.”
Due to the devastating and brutal fire that erupted in Canyon Country on Oct. 24, otherwise known as the Tick fire, all schools in the district were closed the following day, Oct. 25. This left the Pink Out varsity football game against Hart and the Pink Out pep rally to be rescheduled.
The Pink Out football game was rescheduled for the next day, Oct. 26, and the Pink Out rally was rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 8.
The pep rally led by the percussion section certainly boosted students’ spirits after this frantic week full of changes. They had a lot of fun displaying their skills and engaging a large crowd of students. The pep rally was perfectly timed to uplift the morale of those who may have been affected by the fire.
“I think the percussion rally went really well. It grabbed students’ attention because it was very loud so everyone went over to watch them do their thing. It was very entertaining!” said freshman Katie Thurston.
The percussion section received many awards this season. Most recently, West Ranch percussion won sweepstakes, the highest award, at the Hart Rampage at College of the Canyons on Nov. 2.
Our award-winning percussion has certainly kept their heads held high during these demanding times. Their positive spirits during their brunch performance attracted many students and spread happiness through the power of music.
