Black Friday
December 3, 2019
Black Friday is a great way to get a head start on your holiday shopping. The Friday after Thanksgiving is when sales are at their best for shoppers, both in-store and online. This year, Black Friday fell on November 29. Business owners and companies lowered their prices in order to create more customer traffic just in time for the holidays ever since two speculators created massive sales in their gold prices in 1869. Black Friday used to be only one day of the year, but now many stores have one week of pre-sales before this event. Following Black Friday are other deals like Cyber Monday, which was on December 2 this year. Free Shipping Day is another massive sale to look out for on Dec. 14.
Black Friday is associated with heavy pedestrian amounts due to people camping outside stores, flooding into shops and causing havoc. Sometimes these floods of impatient shoppers can become a hazard to many people. During Black Friday in 2013 at a Long Beach Walmart, a temporary worker was trampled to death by a stampede of crazy shoppers. Other events like these have made Black Friday shopping threatening to some.
Some people enjoy shopping during Cyber Monday rather than going to stores on Black Friday to escape the pressure of having to deal with mobs of other shoppers. Cyber Monday allows one to shop inside the comfort of one’s own home without freezing in the cold outside. However, some people like the rush of Black Friday and were ready to rush around as they shopped fanatically.
On Black Friday and the days surrounding it, one may find sweet deals on everything from clothing to beauty products to technology. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Kohl’s, Staples and Target were just a few stores that shoppers visited on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday this holiday season.
Almost all stores had Black Friday deals, so there was no need to worry about whether a store had deals during this time of the year. Stores took advantage of having big “BLACK FRIDAY” signs on their flyers and advertisements. Some stores have massive sales following Black Friday as well, so make sure to look out for more flyers.
Black Friday has become a custom for many during the holiday season. It is always important to plan how to make Black Friday and the days following worth it because this time only comes once a year. Whether one chooses to participate in the craziness of Black Friday or receives the same deals online, it’s always fun to save money while holiday shopping.
