Wildcats come up short against Indians

On Tuesday, in a game featuring the two best players in the Foothill League — Ryan Beddeo and Myles Franklin — the Hart Indians defeated the West Ranch Wildcats 70-68 in the seventh game of league play. Both teams entered with a 4-2 record in the Foothill League.

West Ranch senior guard Ryan Beddeo put up a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the end of regulation and drew a lot of contact from Hart senior guard Myles Franklin — enough contact for a foul — but could not get the shot to fall or a foul called, allowing the Indians to avenge an early season loss to West Ranch.

“Coach Shant told me to just take the shot. He believed in me to make the right play and I thought I did,” said Beddeo. “There was a lot of contact, but that no-call doesn’t change the fact that we had other chances to win down the stretch.”

The Indians led after every quarter of the game, and entered the final quarter with a comfortable 12-point lead. However, three Austin Galuppo 3-pointers and two Ryan Beddeo layups cut the lead down to 2 with one minute left in the game.

Then Beddeo took the final shot, but could not capitalize, sending West Ranch to its second straight loss.

Galuppo scored a game-high 24 points and Beddeo ended with 22. Hart received 19 from Franklin.

The Wildcats began the season with two huge wins knocking off the Valencia Vikings and the Hart Indians in succession, but have lost both of its rematches with the two teams.

West Ranch is now 4-3 in league, good for third place in the Santa Clarita Valley. The Wildcats must now depend on mistakes by the Vikings and Indians in the final three games of league to have a shot at a Foothill League title.

The Wildcats host the Canyon Cowboys on Friday at The Ranch for the final home game of the season.

Friday will also be senior night for the Cats. West Ranch will honor seniors Ryan Beddeo, Justice Decorsi, Anthony Austin, and Grant Dowling for their contributions to the decorated West Ranch basketball legacy. Come out to support your senior ballplayers and give them a proper Wildcat Pack-worthy send-off.
