On Sept. 14, West Ranch girls’ volleyball faced Saugus in their first league game with new coach Jamey Ker. As the team was being introduced, each individual got the opportunity to throw a small volleyball into the crowd.

Then, it was game time. The team was off to a great start in the first set. A rally lasting over a minute followed with a block by Maxine Osunanmi fired up the crowd. But after losing the lead, the team was never able to recover.  In the second set, the team came back with vengeance and won 25-21. Unfortunately, the third set slipped away faster than the first and West Ranch lost 25-12. Before beginning what could have been the last set of the game, a quick huddle prepared the team for a fight in the fourth set. Both teams came out strong and battled it out the entire way as there were many instances throughout where the game was tied. At one point in the game, after being down 20-23, West Ranch came back and won three consecutive points. Eventually after returning with a powerful spike, Saugus won the set 24-26 and celebrated an overall win of 3-1. West Ranch put forth a great effort and contributions by Allison Jacobs and Sophie Bobal helped keep the team alive. Don’t forget to join the team next Tuesday at 5:30 against Golden Valley. Good luck Cats!
