On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Girls Varsity Volleyball played their last match of the season, winning 3-0 against Canyon High School. For both teams, the stakes were extremely high.  Wildcats battled out through three tedious sets and ended the season with success.

In the beginning, Cats were down 1-4, but after a great comeback, the score was 6-6.  Given they had lots of momentum, West Ranch was soon up 20-10.  With multiple kills and aces, Wildcats won the first set 25-14.

In the second set, Caitlyn Varsam started West Ranch off strong with a long serving run, placing the Wildcats up 9-3.

“This serving lead gave me confidence in myself and my teammates because we had a lot of momentum and adrenaline that kept our energy up,” said Varsam.

Unfortunately, Canyon made a huge comeback, giving them a 9-8 lead. Things were not looking good for West Ranch since the Cowboys were suddenly up 23-21. The Wildcats put up a strong fight and barely won the second set 26-24.

In the third set, Arianna Romagnano went on another amazing serving lead 9-1.  Following up with more kills and digs, West Ranch defeated Canyon 25-11.

As incredible as they did in their last match, the players shared a bittersweet moment since they realized the season was over.

“While I was very sad that season was coming to an end, since I have built such great bonds with my teammates, I slowly have become more and more excited for next year because we have eleven returning players.  Having such a young team just opens up more opportunity for success next year and I’m thrilled to begin preparing for that,” said captain Allison Jacobs.

The game ended with a Big/Lil’ Sis gift exchange to mark the end of it all. Great season Cats! Let’s get pumped up for the next one!
