Varsity Girls Tennis Wins Tough Match against Crescenta Valley

This past Thursday, the West Ranch girls varsity tennis team swung off against Crescenta Valley.

The Cats pulled off a narrow win in this tough game with a score of 10-8.

“We have been practicing and the girls have done their due diligence of working really hard, but it’s the beginning of the season so they are still figuring themselves out and their games,” said coach Dina McBride.

The girls got off to a great start, taking a commanding lead in the first round, but slowly lost momentum as the game went on.

“It was not an easy win today,” said junior captain Jordyn McBride. “It was an unexpected very tight match considering we beat them 11-7 last year. Even though it wasn’t the cleanest match that we’ve had, we all fought and pulled it through in the end to make it 10-8. It was very good practice to get our rhythm.”

McBride put on a very great show for the crowd with very strong serves that were unreturnable from her opponent. She cruised to three easy wins overall. But after crushing their opponent 18-0 on Tuesday, Crescenta Valley proved to be some trouble for the rest of the team.

“I think playing under pressure is so important and this match did not give easy matches which prepared us even more for other important upcoming matches,” said McBride.

Overall, the team still has some things to improve on before season begins next week. Come out and support the Cats in their next game as they take on Golden Valley at Golden Valley next Tuesday. Great job Cats!
