Zach Singer, Sports Writer

Born and bred in the Miami suburbs of Loxahatchee, FL, Kerrith Whyte Jr. has shown grit and determination throughout his three years playing for the Florida Atlantic Owls. Now Whyte has his eyes locked in on the NFL.

After following up fellow teammate Devin Singletary’s announcement on Dec. 14, 2018, Whyte shared on Twitter his declaration for the 2019 NFL Draft. Kerrith Whyte Jr. proved himself as a lighting in a bottle on the football field this past season, rushing for 866 yards and 8 touchdowns. This past week, The Paw Print had the opportunity to interview him as he continues his path to the draft.

Q: What was your favorite moment playing for Florida Atlantic?

A: My favorite moment here at Florida Atlantic was a memorable one. On Oct. 6, 2018, I became the first player in Florida Atlantic history to accomplish the feat of a kick return touchdown. I took it from 100 yards out all the way back to the other side of the field for the touchdown.

Q: What was it like playing with another very talented Running Back in Devin Singletary?

A: Playing with Singletary was great — Devin’s my brother! Having someone to constantly push you to reach new heights is what I love. We were both extremely competitive and pushed each to maximum limits so we can put forth our best “us” and become “ the best you.” Nothing but love for Devin!

Q:  Lane Kiffin has coached some of the best players to have ever played the game of football. What impact did Florida Atlantic Coach Lane Kiffin have on your career?

A: Coach Kiffin is a fantastic coach. He was the one who gave me the opportunity to play. He set up tons of plays centered around me gaining yards. He truly catered me to success and molded me into a better player. Tremendously thankful for him!

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

A: My biggest inspiration is my family, without a doubt. They have done so much for me over the years in making me the person I am today. I continually thank God everyday for having such wonderful people raise me. Seeing a smile on their face makes me happy.

Q: “Which football players do you try to model in your game in why?”

A: There a multitude of players that I looked up to growing up. It’s tough to list just one.

Q: Growing up in the state of Florida, would the Dolphins, Jaguars or Buccaneers be a preferred NFL destination?

A: In all honesty, I would be just very thankful for any opportunities that comes my way. Any team, any place, anywhere. I will be grateful no matter what.
