On Wednesday, April 10, West Ranch boys volleyball faced off against Saugus and won the game after just three sets.

The team showed a great deal of teamwork and connection that hinted at their long hours of hard work and practice. Whether it was powerful spikes or skillful saves, every player took turns playing off their teammates strengths to contribute to the win.

West Ranch dominated in the first two sets, with both ending in scores of 25 to 15, but Saugus began to pick it up in the third set. Saugus matched every point West Ranch scored, even at one point taking the lead 18 to 16. Despite a few missed points, West Ranch managed to come back and win the third set 25 to 23 to seal the game.

Coach Brandon Johnson said, “We were very effective in minimizing our errors and keeping the pressure on Saugus. We were relentless with our attacking and tough serving.”

Despite the short, quick game, there were many spectacular moments.

After a serve by Saugus, junior Zack Drake jumped up and didn’t hesitate to deliver a powerful hit straight down to the opposing side, rendering it difficult for Saugus to recover and return the ball.

Another memorable moment was when Johnny Buchanan stuck his foot in the way to save a ball falling fast to the ground. This game perfectly showcased many of the various talents of the players on the team.

“We are a very talented and deep squad. We receive contributions from many different players which keeps the other team guessing at all times,” said Coach Johnson regarding the team’s performance.

Join the team in their next home game on Thursday, April 18 as they take on Hart at home at 5:30 pm.

Good luck Cats!
