West Ranch Girls’ Tennis Sweeps the Golden Valley Grizzlies

On Tuesday Oct. 15, West Ranch girls’ tennis won their match at Golden Valley with a score of 18-0.

On a blisteringly hot day, the Wildcats were able to stay focused and dominate in this match. The Lady Cats served well and were able to receive their opponents’ hits in order to keep rallies going. This focus kept them locked into the number one spot in league.

Senior captain Jordyn McBride told The Paw Print, “It’s really hard to stay focused, especially when you first start tennis. It’s not the easiest thing because you start thinking about other things that aren’t related to tennis. You have to learn to reel yourself back in and think about the next point and what am I going to do right now in the present, which is actually really hard. I’ve struggled with that a lot, but I feel like with each match I play I get better at it.”

With the Wildcats undefeated and seemingly coasting towards a league title, McBride is shifting her focus towards postseason payoff.

“We’ve always lost in the first couple rounds of CIF [playoffs], and we’ve been working really hard to really go far this year. I think we can do it. We’re at the top of Division 1 now […} and we just keep getting better and better each year. We’ve already prepared a lot this year and I think we can go far.”

At the time of publishing, West Ranch had clinched the league title and notched another win over Valencia. They will be playing in the Foothill League playoffs on Wednesday and Thursday, October 29th. Good luck to the Lady Cats as they chase their goals the rest of this season!
