West Ranch Boys’ Soccer falls on Senior Night

Noah Neri, Staff Writer

On Thursday, Feb. 6, the West Ranch boys’ soccer team fell 2-0 against the Golden Valley Grizzlies on Senior Night.

The game was a slug fight in the first half, with both sides sprinting up and down the field, struggling to score. Goalie Eduardo Corretjer made several nice saves in his last game as a Wildcat.

In the second half, the defensive brawl continued until Golden Valley was able to get the first goal of the game off of a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. West Ranch continued to put pressure, pushing the ball quickly upfield, but the Grizzlies’ defense held up. With the Wildcats failing to convert on several shots on goal, the game was still wide open heading into the final five minutes.

Golden Valley, however, soon ended those hopes with a dagger. A shot hung in the air for what felt like an eternity, just over the outstretched fingers of Corretjer, before finding the back of the net. With just over four minutes left in the game, this goal effectively ended the Wildcats’ hopes of a comeback.

Shea Weiner’s missed penalty kick around two minutes later officially sealed the deal, and the Wildcats fell 2-0. West Ranch finished the season with an overall record of 4-11-3 (1-7-2 league).

Thank you to all West Ranch players for your contributions to the season, and a special thanks to all the seniors for an amazing four years!
