SCV Spotlight: The Makenna Koffee Company

The tropical and upbeat atmosphere of the Makenna Koffee Company has quickly become a local Santa Clarita favorite since its grand opening on Jan. 6. Located on Newhall Ranch Road, the Makenna Koffee cafe has various flavors of coffees, teas, blends, smoothies and pastries for their customers to try.

Marni Darling, one of the managers at the Makenna Koffee Company, worked to open a new location in Valencia, following their first opening in Simi Valley. “We’re just ecstatic to be here and it’s very exciting,” Darling explained with enthusiasm.

Not only has the new opening been a thrilling event for the Makenna Koffee Company employees, but Valencia locals have loved the new addition to the community. West Ranch Campus Supervisor Michele Spargo, an avid customer at the cafe, expressed her love for the large selection that the shop provides: “Overall, their coffees are really, really good, their teas are excellent [and] their pastries look really good.”

The Makenna Koffee Company has been known for their Hawaiian flavors and overall light, tropical aesthetic within the shop. Madison Lee, a freshman at West Ranch, explained her love for the cafe’s “vanilla, cozy vibes,” which provide the perfect ambience for students to study. “They have couches along with regular tables that make it a comfortable area.”

For West Ranch students who are interested in working a part-time job, the Makenna Koffee Company is a great location to work. “We really want to be part of the community and we enjoy having that young vibe of kids coming in and working here,” Darling shared when describing the welcoming environment of the store.

The atmosphere within the cafe is not only great for working students, but also those who come in to study.  “I’m excited because we haven’t had a new cafe for a while,” Lee shared after visiting the new cafe with her friends. “Having a new cafe open to us as a new option is an exciting deal.”

Makenna Koffee is also famous for having many diverse options on the menu, such as the Hawaiian Honey latte, the Lavender Matcha, the Beach Cruiser tea and various pastries such as the Blueberry and Lemon poppy seed muffins. “We have such an endless amount of coffee, and that’s what I enjoy, being able to kinda sample different things and what we want to bring to everybody,” Darling explained when asked about the variety on the menu.

After multiple visits to Makenna Koffee, Michele has tried a variety of drinks, and has noted that her favorite is the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Cold Brew. She additionally mentioned that she enjoys the customization options at Makenna Koffee.

With its beautiful location here in Santa Clarita, its unique and exotic flavors for everyone and its’ great working environment, the Makenna Koffee Company has been a great addition to local culture.
