On March 23 through March 25, the junior class members of ASB prepared for their senior year and ran for class office. After a week’s worth of candidates promoting their potential ideas to the junior class through posters, social media and more, the results of the election were revealed on March 27.
President Owen Hess:
Competing in a close battle with his opponent Harrison Lee, returning officer Owen Hess was thrilled to see that he had won the election for Senior Class President. He reminisced the emotions he felt after realizing his hard work paid off. “I felt even more determined than I did before. Knowing that so many people supported me was so inspiring” he shared.
As Senior Class President, Hess’ priority is to “make everyone in [the senior] class a bigger part of the decision-making process in ASB.” He plans to make this possible by sending out emails throughout the year for seniors to be able to vote on decisions involving class events.
Hess was able to achieve his role by displaying flyers around campus, posting on social media and interacting with students face-to-face. Hess pointed out that the key component to his success was his “efforts to connect with as many people as possible around campus.”
Vice President Govind Sudan:
Returning class officer Govind Sudan was elected as next year’s Senior Vice President. Having experience as freshman class president, Sudan noted, “returning as vice president feels like the perfect way to bring [my] time at West Ranch full circle.” Sudan achieved his role as vice president through hybrid campaigning, combining social media and face-to-face conversations with classmates.
His main goals for the upcoming senior class are to achieve the senior year bucket list and keep students excited through fresh ideas. “I want every single person in our grade to look back and feel a genuine sense of pride that they graduated as a Wildcat” Sudan explained.
Sudan plans to make a lasting legacy for the West Ranch community, as well as a memorable senior year. He voiced, “It’s about finishing this chapter with our heads high and making sure everyone feels like they were a vital part of the West Ranch family.”
Secretary Niya Bidin:
Niya Bidin received the role as the new Senior Class Secretary. As the new secretary, Bidin ensures her class that she will create new events to secure a smooth sailing experience for their senior year.
Bidin hopes to bring in new and old ideas for the upcoming year. She proposed, “I was thinking about having us write letters to ourselves at the end of senior year at senior sunset.”
During Bidin’s past three years in ASB, she focused on her responsibilities as a member of the sales and merch team. Although she could have competed for a higher position on the team, she decided to run for Senior Class Secretary. “I thought giving back to the people was more important,” she expressed.
Treasurer Elina Ghosh:
Elina Ghosh was elected as Senior Class Treasurer. She aims to create an exciting final year for her class through her future plans and her experience of three years in ASB.
During her years in ASB, Ghosh took on roles such as being a member of the Student Outreach Commission, which plans out school events such as spirit weeks and donation drives. Ghosh also addressed, “I have a lot of experience dealing with finances and money, so I thought it would be a great position for me to contribute my experience.”
Ghosh has already started to think about plans for the upcoming year, emphasizing her goal to provide the rising seniors a year full of excitement and memories. “Well, as senior class treasurer, I want to make next year as fun as possible for the class of ‘27. We are already starting to plan Gradbash and our senior merchandise,” she revealed.
Class of 2027, be prepared for an amazing senior year with Owen Hess, Govind Sudan, Niya Bidin and Elina Ghosh as your class officers! Cats, let’s support these ASB leaders as they continue to use their leadership skills to shape an amazing final year of high school!
