As temperatures are getting warmer by the day, summer is slowly approaching. After a year’s worth of hard work in school, West Ranch students are eager to make summer break plans. Whether their plans are to relax, travel, study or to get jobs, students plan to make the most out of the time they have for summer break.
For many wildcats, summer break is a chance for them to focus on themselves, have fun and recover from the previous school year. Free from academic chores like homework and studying, freshman Ariella Nazanin expressed how she wants to make up for the lost time. “This summer I plan on catching up with friends that I haven’t talked to in a while. I want to spend more time with family because I haven’t been able to recently with all of my homework, exams and extracurriculars,” she explained
Many students also use summer break as an opportunity to travel long distances since they do not have chances to do so during the school year. During the summer, many students like junior Josephine Adams-Baena are traveling to meet their relatives. Adams-Baena expressed, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen my entire extended family so I’m really excited to be able to have fun and vacation with them in Colombia.”
Along with spending time with friends and family, many students are utilizing their free time by taking classes over the summer. Sophomores and juniors are preparing for the upcoming school year because of the SATs, ACTs and other important tests.
This is also an optimal time for students to further their education.“I plan on making this summer more academic than my last ones” sophomore Madison Lee explained.I’m doing two academic summer camps, taking a summer course and studying hard for the SAT as I go into my junior year.”
Although Lee is spending most of her time furthering her academics, she still looks forward to hanging out with her friends. “I have many plans to go places like the Getty Museum and Santa Barbara with my two best friends and again have plans to travel out of town with a friend’s family.”
Students have also been able to clear up their schedules to find employment. Sophomore Sofia Isabel Yuvienco was able to secure a job as a cashier at the local Chuck E. Cheese arcade. When asked about why she plans to work at the arcade she replied, “I decided to work over the summer because I have been working at Chuck E. Cheese since last summer. Also, it will be a great idea to make money, as I am sure I’ll be spending lots of it on gas this summer!”
Cats, whether you are planning on traveling, hanging out with friends, furthering your academic progress or getting into the workplace, make sure you enjoy your summer to its fullest this year!
