Poppin Tags, Santa Clarita’s newest thrift store, has popped into the Valencia Westfield Town Center, bringing racks of vintage finds, bold fashion and sustainable shopping to the mall. Since its opening on Aug. 1st, the store has received immense support from Santa Clarita’s youth.
Since entering the reselling world on eBay, the owners, Eileen and Anothony Gustafson have slowly grown their side hustle from online, reselling at flea markets and temporary pop-ups to now opening their own resale store. Eileen Gustafson explained the process of opening a store at the mall, claiming, “So, when we reached out to the mall and told them the kind of concept we wanted, they were like ‘lets do it’ we need to bring some kids back to the mall.”
Popping Tags has brought some West Ranch students back to the mall, such as senior Emma Evaristo. When asked about her first impressions of the store Evaristo emphasized, “I would have to say the owners are what truly make Poppin Tags a great place to go to. They were very kind and welcoming when I went for the first time.”
Eileen Gustafson hopes for Poppin Tags to bring a positive environment and a sense of community to SCV. “I want everyone to feel comfortable and have a good time here, whether you buy something or not,” she elaborated. “It’s basically like a place where the community comes together, just like the swap meet.”
When deciding what clothes to resell at Popping Tags, Eileen explained, “I like all the aesthetics and to kind of combine everything. I like vintage, I like new clothes, I like mixing everything.” She also noted that shoppers can find new items every time they come. “I’m constantly adding to the floor. 100 items every single day.”
When Evaristo visited the store, she found a number of thrift finds including “a teal tank, silver belt, Long champ bag and vintage Members Only jacket.” She also tried on various vintage tees, hoodies and accessories., “I especially loved their collection of accessories from belts to boots” she said.
Another satisfied customer, sophomore Julia Gonzales, expressed her enthusiasm for a belt she found while browsing the store. “I’ve worn it so many times, it’s definitely a staple piece in my closet.” Poppin Tags brings together trendy styles and a lively atmosphere for students to enjoy. Gonzales reminisced on her experience exploring the new store, explaining “While I was walking around the store, I loved listening to the upbeat music. It was so fun to dance around, and it had such a vibe.”
The store has continued to thrive since its opening, serving as a place for people of all ages to find solace and community. “We’re here, the same hours as the mall, seven days a week except for holidays, like the major holidays. You can drop in,” Eileen Gustafson proclaimed.
Cats, if you are looking for unique clothing and great thrift finds, make sure to visit Poppin Tags at the local Valencia Westfield Mall!
