Pumpkin Spice and everything nice! As the leaves begin to fall and crisp, the autumn breeze fills the air as students look forward to a new wave of festive clothing. With the unpleasant summer heat finally coming to a close, the fall season allows students to have a more comfortable, cozy and expressive style.
To showcase these diverse styles when fall comes, The Paw Print interviewed West Ranch students to gain their input on how fall influences their fashion choices. Each with their own unique styles, they still bring the fall vibe and trends to every one of their outfits!
Scarlet Luna
West Ranch freshman Scarlet Luna loves experimenting with fashion. From finding inspiration on Pinterest to shopping at Hollister and thrift stores, each of her outfits are fun and unique. She applies thi
s same creativity, especially during the fall season, to spice up her usual choices. She likes to layer for a more cozy feel, matching her outfits to a fall color scheme.
“My style kind of changes every day. It’s mostly either grunge or like downtown girl.” Luna explained. “[My outfits] match my mood, so it’s like a replication of how I act.”
Accessorizing her outfit with cute socks and big bracelets, Luna likes using clothing that not everybody has. When asked what makes her outfits so special, Luna responded, “Definitely the pieces that I have, because a lot of the things I get, I get from people or shops online that I see on TikTok.” Luna continued, “I like small sellers that make specific pieces, or I go thrifting, so nobody else really has the clothes.”
During this time, many students may want to try new things with their fashion choices. Luna says that funky patterns are definitely something we should be seeing more of. “I feel like we should definitely layer with more patterns. Even if you think they don’t go together—they go together, everything goes together all the time,” she suggested.
Not only does Luna have a creative sense of style, but she also believes everyone should express themselves through fashion. “Everybody needs to be swag,” Luna vocalized. Luna’s combination of layered clothing and countless accessories is essential to her fall outfits, completing her personal fall aesthetic.
Alyssa Maghirang
With a little bit of a different take, freshman Alyssa Maghirang loves creating outfits using anything she can find, creating new clothing and finding herself through her fashion.
Additionally, she loves finding gems at thrift stores, and she even sews her own clothes. Even the skirt she’s wearing, she created herself!
Maghirang has a lot of siblings, so she can recycle their clothes to make something completely new. When she was asked about her inspiration for her fashion, Maghirang replied, “It’s very influenced by what I find at my home. It’s sort of just like a big treasure box in there. You just find something good and you’re like: ‘Oh! This is cute. I could do something with that,’ and you can put it together in your head.”
During the fall, she adjusts her style to be distinctive, but still match the fall weather. “I love [the fall weather]. I hate hot weather because I don’t like getting or feeling sweaty at all,” Maghirang emphasized. “[Fall] fashion staples [would be] sweaters and boots, and just cute accessories to go with it because sometimes when you cover up your outfit with warmer layers, they can hide good parts of your outfit, so you have to accessorize as well.”
Maghirang’s overall style took much time to reach the point where it is today. “It developed starting from the point in 7th grade when I only shopped on Temu” Maghirang noted. “And then, the doomscrolling on Pinterest, and then, occasionally going on TikTok, and I’m just like ‘wow!’ You could just tell off the bat which ones looked better than others, and I’m like, ‘I wanna go for that.’”
Maghirang’s style is very curated to fit her satisfaction. “I’m not alt, but usually I’d rather go for a cutesy looking emo kind of look, and the colors match the mood I’m feeling that day, it just depends,” she explained. Expressing herself through her clothing is a huge factor in her overall fashion. “I express that I like to have fun, that I like showing up, and the creativity and the things that go on in my head,” Maghirang vocalized.
Mason Dokkhaemklang
Sophomore Mason Dokkhaemklang loves creating outfits through his favorite brands, taking inspiration from unique sources. Overall, he goes for the streetwear style for his outfits, accessorizing with bracelets and occasionally rings. When fall comes around, he leans toward a more autumn aesthetic with his outfits, with darker colors and tartan patterns.
During fall, Dokkhaemklang says that fashion essentials would be “Flannel, jeans, tartan, also brown and those colors. I think a lot of people are going to be doing fur boots and stuff like that, and their autumn things of their own choice.” When asked what fall’s color scheme would be, Dokkhaemklang responded with “Brown, orange, white, black and red.”
Though Dokkhaemklang finds inspiration online, he also discovered his love for fashion in ways some may not expect. “When I’m in Thailand, we have just tons of malls where they have a lot of thrift stores, so I just look at what people are wearing there and just base that on my outfits,” Dokkhaemklang explained. His love for fashion didn’t come naturally either: “I think my cousin in Thailand, she just started getting into fashion a lot and I spent a year there, so I was heavily influenced by her.”
Mason’s style is unique, and his fashion choices stand out from others. “I don’t really see people wearing Paul Frank and flannel around school,” Dokkhaemklang stated. His outfits are made around the brands he loves, each chosen for a specific reason. “I shop at Jaded London, Paul Frank, Berksha, and Stussy, Essentials” he explained. “My favorites are Jaded London because they have really good quality clothes, and then usually their pants last a super long time.”
Gavin Banayo
Finally, Senior Gavin Banayo likes to stick to the basics, calling for simple yet effective outfits. With casual outfits for school, like hoodies layered with a nice jacket and sneakers, he enjoys going for more of a clean look. When the fall season comes, Banayo notices how fashion trends tend to recycle, just with slight differences. All in all, fall fashion
always gives a cozy yet put-together feel for Banayo.
Finding inspiration from Pinterest and Tiktok, Banayo incorporates a developed style into straightforward outfits, making them look effortless. “I’m really into oversized sweaters and layered looks right now,” Banayo said. With thoughtful choices for where he finds his clothing, he shops at “Uniqlo, H&M, and thrift stores [because] they are affordable and have good basics.”
Fall fashion staples for Banayo include, “flannels, baggy jeans, and neutral colors like brown and beige.” With trends constantly changing, Banayo notes what he thinks will rise in popularity this time of year. “I think vintage-inspired pieces, like corduroy jackets and cargo pants, will keep growing in popularity,” Banayo predicted.
As the fall season comes around, students are embracing the cooler weather and the opportunity for a warmer, more comfortable style. As we can see, fall brings a new wave of inspiration to fashion for West Ranch students, each with their own creative style. Wildcats, this fall season, we encourage you to explore new styles, express yourselves through clothing, and use creativity to create your own unique twist on fall fashion.
